Paul Smith
It is during this time that he successfully passed the Membership in Dental Surgery examination awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
He undertook his postgraduate Orthodontic training at Guys Hospital London, where he was awarded the degree of Master of Science in Orthodontics (King’s College London) and Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2007, as well as winning the coveted University Teachers Award for the best research project at the 2007 British Orthodontic conference.
Paul joined the highly regarded Orthosolutions practice in North Leeds as a specialist Orthodontist in 2007 and in 2009 decided to undertake further part time consultant training in treating cases requiring multidisciplinary care such as Hypodontia, Cleft lip and palate and Orthognathic Surgery at Leeds Dental Institute and York District Hospital. He was awarded the Fellowship in Orthodontics by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2012 recognising his training to Consultant orhodontist level. As well as working in specialist practice, Paul currently holds a part-time Consultant post with a special interest in Cleft lip and palate at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and the Montagu Hospital, Mexborough.
Paul has been a registered specialist with the General Dental Council since 2007. He is also a member of the British Dental Association, the British and European Orthodontic Societies, and the British Lingual Orthodontic Society. Paul has published extensively in the dental and orthodontic literature and currently reviews for three of the leading orthodontic journals. He is actively involved in the Leeds postgraduate specialist training programme and has previously been a trainer of newly qualified dentists and currently runs a number of courses/presentations throughout the year to general dental practitioners.
He keeps himself at the cutting edge of orthodontics with peer review sessions with his local orthodontic colleagues with regular attendance at training courses and national/international conferences. Paul’s main clinical interests are adult orthodontics, treatment of patients with Cleft lip and palate and orthognathic surgery, outside of work Paul enjoys spending time with his young family, playing golf and watching rugby (and his body has given up on playing).
